How Chevrolet today became cool April 5, 2009
Posted by richard in : Uncategorized , trackbackTODAY, Chevrolet became the coolest car maker in the country.
Why? Because it put Jason Plato into a Chevrolet Lacetti BTCC car, and watched the brand hatch at Brands.
It was a last-minute deal. So last minute, the press office haven’t even been able to start shouting.
They will be now, though. Three races saw Plato get better and better. He even got a wild-card pole for the third race, and led away cleanly.
He finished second. But it was how he finished second that both make Chevrolet cool and Plato even more of a hero than he already is.
See, on the second lap, he got hoofed up the chuff (technical term) into Paddock Hill bend. One of the world’s most daunting corners.
He should have been off. Into the stars. The smash actually lifted the back of his car off the ground, such was the force. He certainly shouldn’t have caught it.
But save it, he did. How? Even he admitted, afterwards, he didn’t know. Replays time and again reinforce disbelief at a sure-fire crash being avoided.
The image it leaves, however, makes Chevrolet cool. Broadside at 100mph, drifting sideways, full opposite lock, front wheels alight. It’s extreme!! It’s hardcore!! It’s in a Chevrolet!!
Which, in an instant, made the brand alternative, rock, and, yes, cool.
JP, thank you. YouTube, order the extra server power now.
